Importance of Regular Eye Exams

At Personal Eyes, we give special attention to helping make sure every patient that visits us receives top-notch vision care. Not only do you have access to top-notch eye care at Personal Eyes, but top-notch vision exams as well. Think about your previous optometrist visits and the last time you had a good, comprehensive exam of your eyes and vision. If you are like a lot of patients, you have a few questions about regular eye exams and we are here to offer you the answers.

How often should you have a regular eye exam?

The American Optometric Association recommends that you get your eyes checked every year if you are over the age of 60 or have a family or personal history of eye diseases and conditions. You should also be getting an annual exam if you wear contacts or eyeglasses to ensure that your prescription is still the right one. Additionally, adults between the ages of 18 and 60 should have their eyes checked by an optometrist about every other year unless there is a problem. It is always a good idea to have your child’s eyes checked annually to ensure their vision is developing properly and to avoid pediatric vision problems that can be better treated if detected early on.

What does a comprehensive eye exam include?

The comprehensive eye exam you will receive when you visit our optometrist at Personal Eyes will assess every level of your visual condition. We will take the time to perform an array of tests and make sure every component of your eye exam is complete and efficient. A few things that you should expect during your eye exam with us include:

  • a dilated eye exam to examine the back of your eye
  • visual tests to detect visual accuracy
  • depth perception testing
  • color observation tests
  • peripheral vision testing
